How much do hearing aids cost in the UK?

Private hearing aids in the UK range from under £1,000 to over £5,000 a pair. The price depends mostly on the level of technology, and on what is included with it. Here is how to make sense of it.

What drives the price

  • Technology level. Every major manufacturer makes each hearing aid in several levels. Higher levels handle noisy places better, adapt automatically to more situations and have more fine-tuning options. The hardware often looks identical.
  • Style. Most styles cost the same, but some custom or specialist designs cost more with some providers.
  • Features. Rechargeable batteries, Bluetooth streaming and health tracking are now common, even at mid-range levels.
  • What is included. This is where providers differ most: fittings, follow-ups, aftercare, batteries, repairs and warranty.

What should be included

A hearing aid is not just a device. Its performance depends heavily on how well it is fitted and fine-tuned. Before you buy, check what the price covers:

  • A full hearing assessment and a trial or demo before you commit.
  • The fitting itself, with real-ear or careful verification of the settings.
  • Follow-up appointments in the first weeks to fine-tune.
  • Ongoing aftercare, including yearly hearing tests and checks.
  • A money back guarantee or trial period.
  • The manufacturer's warranty, and what happens with loss or damage.

A cheaper price with pay-as-you-go aftercare can end up costing more over the life of the aids.

Our prices

Our hearing aids cost from £1,495 to £3,995 for a pair, across five clear tiers. The price is set by the level of technology, not by the brand, so an Oticon and a Phonak at the same level cost the same. Every tier includes the same fitting, aftercare for as long as you own them, yearly checks and a 60 day money back guarantee. You can spread the cost with 0% finance over up to 12 months, subject to status. See the full breakdown on our hearing aid prices page.

NHS or private?

NHS hearing aids are free and good quality, and they suit many people. Private hearing aids offer more choice of style and technology, shorter waits and more flexible appointments. We have written an honest comparison of private and NHS hearing aids.
